A newly-published report of the AAAS, delivered to the United Nations at a special conference on science and human rights, features the views of linguists and other scientists who participated in focus groups  held over the past two years in a variety of settings. The participating linguists met for a focus group held at the 2011 LSA Linguistic Institute in Boulder, Colorado, as part of a larger initiative of the AAAS Science and Human Rights Coalition to help define “the right to benefit from scientific progress” found in Article 15 of the International Covenant of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 1966. The LSA has been a member of the Coalition since its inception in 2009.
