Graduate and undergraduate students interested in attending the LSA's 2015 Linguistic Institute can now begin applications (login required) for student fellowships. A large number of fellowships covering the full cost of tuition are available, as well as three named fellowships which cover additional expenses.

The 2015 Linguistic Institute, themed "Linguistic Theory in a World of Big Data", will be held from July 6 - 31 and hosted by the University of Chicago. Over the Institute's four weeks, more than 100 courses will be offered on introductory and advanced topics across linguistics. Courses to be taught include:

• Introductory Sociolinguistics (taught by Penelope Eckert)
• Introduction to Semantics (Chris Kennedy)
• Language and Culture (Michael Silverstein)
• Topics in Balkan Linguistics (Victor Friedman and Brian Joseph)
• The Psycholinguistics of Grammar (Colin Phillips)
• Language Variation through the Lens of Web Data (Sravana Reddy)
• Language Conflict & Language Rights (Stanley Dubinsky and William Davies)
• Linguistics as a Forensic Science (Carole Chaski)

Linguistic Institute Fellowship applications require a statement of purpose, details about academic preparation (including transcripts, in most cases), and two letters of recommendation. More information on application requirements and on the Bernard and Julia Bloch, Sag, McCawley and DSNA fellowships is provided on the LSA website. Information on application instructions and eligibility requirements is also available; note that though fellowship applications are only open to students, both students and faculty are encouraged to attend the Linguistic Institute. Registration for the Institute will begin in the spring of 2015.

Applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM ET, Thursday, January 15, and recommendations must be received by Thursday, January 22. All applicants must be student members of the LSA.
