Prof. Sheila E. Blumstein, of Brown University, was recently awarded the Silver Medal in Speech Communication by the Acoustical Society of America. Blumstein, the Albert D. Mead Professor of Cognitive, Linguistic and Psychological Sciences, is a Life Member of the LSA and was elected as an LSA Fellow in 2009.

The Silver Medal is presented to individuals for contributions to the advancement of science, engineering, or human welfare through the application of acoustic principles, or through research accomplishments in acoustics. Prof. Blumstein's award was given for her "contributions to understanding how acoustic signals are transformed into linguistic representations." More information is available from the ASA.
