The LSA is seeking a proofreader to assist the editorial team in the Language offices. Details about the position responsibilities and necessary qualifications may be found below, along with instructions on how to apply. 

Peer-reviewed academic journal is seeking highly-qualified proofreader for ongoing contract work. Work is extremely time-sensitive.

Qualifications:

• Eye for detail, particularly with diacritics and special symbols

• Proven ability to meet all deadlines

• Familiarity with LANGUAGE style (can be learned)

• Proficient with Chicago Manual of Style

• Proficient with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word

• Knowledge of proofreading symbols and terminology helpful

• Proofreading experience preferred

• Some linguistics background preferred

• Native or near-native English proficiency

• Work can be performed at any location

Responsibilities:

• Proofread copy for typos and other errors by comparing typeset proof to the original document, paying close attention to diacritics and special symbols

• Insert corrections on pdf’s.

• Work closely with copyeditors to return proofs on deadline

• Proofreading work will be most intense around January, April, July and October, but continues year round.

• The work is done under a freelance/contractor arrangement with the LSA.

The proofreader works under the direction of the journal’s copy editors and reports to the journal editor.

Hours: About 40 hours per issue, four issues per year

Compensation: $17 per hour
